Luke and Holly’s Machines With Magnets wedding in Pawtucket. Luke and Holly. They’re the ones who did me the honor of being my guinea pigs for my first in-home engagement session. They brought the cool for that, and they brought the cool to their wedding. If cool were a liquid substance that could ooze, it would ooze from them. I guess from their pores or something? It’d probably be velvet-red and bubble-gum pink ooze. Maybe with streaks of tattoo-black. But anyway, enough about ooze and bodily emissions. Onto more peppering of keywords!

L&H’s wedding took place at Machines with Magnets in Pawtucket, RI, surrounded by odd paintings of surgeries and dudes holding their wieners. The paintings weren’t the couples’ choice; the venue features a new artist every month, and this month happened to be a surgery-and-penis type of artist, you know? The colors were appropriately poppin’, the disco skull were glitterin’, and the g’s were getting replaced by apostrophes because, again: cooool.

The Engagement

Luke planned the most adorable, thoughtful proposal ever. He had been joking for weeks about making Holly a classic French dish à la Gordon Ramsay, but she had no idea what was coming. One random Wednesday, she walked into their apartment to find it transformed into a cozy French café, Eiffel Tower decor, French music, fairy lights, and Luke dressed in full beret-and-mustache attire. He’d taken a half day from work to cook an entire meal from scratch with help from his mom. The whole night was sweet and cozy and then he brought out dessert with a ring box hidden next to the croissants. It was the perfect proposal: heartfelt, hilarious, and so them.

Their Vision for Machines With Magnets Wedding

When Holly described the wedding, she said they wanted it to feel like “a big party in a space that feels the most like us, with the people who mean the most.” And that’s exactly what it was. Machines With Magnets has this artsy, intimate vibe with ambient lighting and a little outdoor patio. They filled the space with vibrant reds, greens, yellows, and pinks, no dusty pastels here, and the entire night felt like a party between family and the closest of friends.

They kept some of the traditional moments like dinner, toasts, etc. but didn’t stress over any of it. Their focus was just enjoying the day with everyone.

We always want to work with couples who value that same laid-back, real approach. Read more about how we work here.

Why They Chose Us for Machines With Magnets Wedding Photography

In their words: “We were drawn to your ability to capture raw, candid moments… and your editing style strikes a balance between boldness and romantic softness.” They also loved that we shoot both film and digital (and Super 8!) and pay attention to all the small stuff like rings, florals, the way the light hits someone’s shoulder during dinner.

It meant a lot to us that they trusted our eyes and approach so fully.

Their Review

Here’s a snippet of what they wrote after getting their gallery:

“If wedding photography were the Met Gala, ours just walked the red carpet and shut. it. down. Hands down, the BEST decision we made for our wedding was booking this husband and wife photography dream team… Every image feels alive. The vibrancy, the authenticity, the way the light dances across the frames, each photo is a work of art… If you’re after photographers who just get it, look no further. These two are it. Book them. Thank yourself later.”

Yea, that review is like THE review of the year.

What We Loved Most

Luke and Holly and their wedding were oozing cool. Nothing else to say other than that because that describes the day down to the T.

We shot everything in digital, 35mm film, and Super 8.
