Kat and Mike. They’re cool people, so naturally they chose a cool venue for their wedding.
Okay Island is one of those venues that makes you forget you’re at a wedding venue at all.
It’s tucked away right on the Connecticut and Rhode Island border, and the whole place feels open, laid-back, and a little different from everything else. During COVID, the owner, Adam, bought the property and spent his time building the industrial-style barn and greenhouse himself.
Instead of the usual hotel conference room for getting ready, the guys hang out in a Winebago (which is tucked away in the woods), while the bridal suite overlooks the property and ceremony site. The ceremony takes place out in a wide-open field, cocktail hour spills between the barn and the outdoor green area, and guests can wander through wildflowers, woods, and open space instead of feeling packed into one building all night. When you’ve been to as many wedding venues as we have, there’s something really cool about Okay Island and how open all of the it feels.

Oh, and they also had a poet with a typewriter writing poems on the spot for each guest!

Why They Chose Us for Okay Island Wedding Photography
Kat and Mike told us they were looking for photographers with good vibes, good energy, and, most importantly, less posey photos. They didn’t want to be taken out of the moment or spend an hour recreating Pinterest poses. They wanted to actually enjoy their wedding day and trust us to document it as it happened.
That’s honestly music to our ears because that’s exactly how we love to photograph weddings.
What We Loved Most
Our favorite thing about Okay Island. It never feels stiff or overly formal. The whole property invites people to spread out, grab a drink, find a quiet corner to catch up with family, or just soak in the atmosphere. It feels more like being at an incredible backyard party than a traditional wedding venue in Connecticut and Rhode Island border.
One of the things we loved most about Okay Island is that it doesn’t feel like a traditional wedding venue. There aren’t a million rules or someone breathing down your neck all day. Instead, it kind of feels like you’re getting married in your friend’s really cool backyard. I’ll speak for both of us in saying that Okay Island is getting up there on our fave venues list.
Adam, the owner is super laid-back, easy to talk to, and genuinely excited to see people enjoying the space. The whole place reflects that energy. It doesn’t have that overly polished, suit-and-tie feeling some venues can have. It feels relaxed, welcoming, and like everyone is there to have a really good time or help you have a good time.
