Congratulations on your engagement! Thank you for choosing us to photograph your special moments. We’ve put together this guide to help you prepare for your engagement shoot. Of course, these are just suggestions, and you don’t have to follow them at all if you don’t want to.
The best advice we can give you for how to prep is to be your true self! Documentary photography is all about taking photos of your authentic selves. Your engagement session is not about photos for our portfolios; it’s about taking photos of you that you will look back on and truly feel the way you felt that day.
How to figure out what to wear
Comfort > Style
Pick out outfits that truly reflect your personality and style. I’d even say not to wear an outfit/shoes that you haven’t worn yet because you’ll most likely look uncomfortable. Wear what you feel comfortable in and just try to remember that the goal is to capture your natural selves having a fun time together, so avoid anything too formal unless that truly reflects your personal style. In general you want to dress according to season and just have fun with what you wear. Wear what you’re comfortable in, what looks like you.
What to Bring
You may want to bring champagne to spray everywhere toward the end, or beer or whatever you’re into or no drink at all haha. (Recommendation: yes. Super fun!) Probably an aesthetic blanket too in case the ground is too wet to lie on, because lying-down shots are awesome, and something that could be whipped in the wind for some other shots.
- Comfy shoes to wear in between locations if you choose to wear heels
- Your fur baby for extra special photos!
- Bag to empty your pockets of phones & wallets.
How to pick a location
Think about moments, memories and activities that define your bond. Where did you have your first date? your first kiss? Where did he propose? Any location that has a special place in your story is always the best location. We also encourage our couples to think outside of the box. Your engagement session does not have to be in a pretty park during the spring or fall. It can be in an arcade or a book store or we can go driving around while you show me your town and spots you frequent. Meaningful placed will enhance the authenticity of your photos
Above all, remember that your engagement session is a celebration of your love and commitment. Enjoy the experience and lets have a blast together.
